Recap
Guest Speaker Tommy 'Urban D' Kyllonen opened by celebrating the diversity of his family and church, then addressed the rapid changes and increasing division in our cities. He emphasized that as believers, we have the answer to this division and are called to love our neighbors as ourselves, a command that includes everyone regardless of background. Pastor Tommy set up the message with a spoken word piece highlighting the conditional love often practiced today, contrasting it with Jesus's teaching. He then turned to Luke 10, where an expert in religious law asks Jesus how to inherit eternal life and, seeking a loophole, asks 'Who is my neighbor?' In response, Jesus tells the parable of the Good Samaritan. Pastor Tommy explained the historical tension between Jews and Samaritans, noting that Jesus made the 'despised' Samaritan the hero of the story to show that our neighbor is anyone in need, especially those different from us. He shared stories from his church's 'Love Our City' initiative in Tampa, where serving diverse communities through practical acts of kindness opened doors for ministry and changed negative perceptions of the church. The message concluded with a call to action: to pray for neighbors by name, to love people different from ourselves by getting over our own fears, and to find creative opportunities to serve others, letting the Holy Spirit guide us to shine Christ's light in our communities.
