Recap
Guest Speaker Montell Jordan opened his message, 'The Name of God,' by emphasizing the profound importance of names in accessing identity, inheritance, and relationship. He illustrated this with a personal story of meeting actor Laurence Fishburne, highlighting the difference between knowing someone from a distance and being known by them personally. Pastor Montel then applied this principle to our relationship with God, explaining that while we often use the generic term 'God,' He has many personal names that reveal different aspects of His character and provide specific access to His power. The core of the message centered on Exodus 3:14, where God reveals His name as 'I AM'—a declaration of His eternal, ever-present nature. Pastor Montel taught that our proximity to God, or closeness in relationship, is revealed by what we call Him, moving from a distant 'Father God' to intimate names like Jehovah Jireh (Provider) or Jehovah Rapha (Healer). He stressed that through Jesus Christ, who is 'the way, the truth, and the life,' the gap between humanity and God is closed, allowing for a personal, powerful relationship. The sermon concluded with an invitation to receive salvation and to draw near to God, calling on His specific names for our specific needs, because He knows us by our name and calls us holy, righteous, and His children.
