Recap
Pastor Travis Hearn opened the service with prayer and praise, focusing on the theme of God as our provider and protector. He began by sharing his personal connection to Psalm 91, a prayer of protection his mother prayed over him, before turning to his favorite chapter, Psalm 23. The central message was that because the Lord is our shepherd, we lack nothing. Pastor Travis broke this down into three key roles of God: our Shepherd, our Supplier, and our Savior. He used the analogy of sheep—weak, defenseless, and prone to wander—to illustrate our need for a shepherd who picks us up, carries our burdens, and cleans us up. He emphasized that Jesus is the Good Shepherd who actively protects and pursues our enemies. The sermon then explored God as our supplier, referencing Philippians 4:19 to declare that God 'shall supply all your need' from His limitless riches. This provision is not merely material but includes peace, courage, wisdom, grace, and, most importantly, His abiding presence, especially in life's valleys. Pastor Travis encouraged the congregation that even in the 'valley of the shadow of death,' we are not alone; God is with us, and we are merely passing 'through' the difficulty. He connected this to the church's original song 'Yahweh,' written from a place of desperate need. Finally, he presented God as our Savior who 'restores my soul.' He contrasted the soul's thirst with worldly solutions that leave us emptier, pointing to Jesus as the only one who can satisfy and bring dead things back to life, as illustrated by the vision of dry bones in Ezekiel 37. The call to action was to stop 'killing' things with negative words and instead prophesy life through God's truth, concluding with an invitation to accept Jesus as Savior and a prayer for those in a valley.
