Recap
Guest speaker Tauren Wells opened by expressing his deep, enduring love for the church, a love that began at age nine when he first felt a sense of belonging and gave his life to Christ. He acknowledged the 'shadow side' of church, sharing personal experiences of being hurt, including when members left his congregation over his interracial marriage. Despite these wounds, he emphasized that the church is God's dream and the living, breathing bride of Christ—not a political platform, museum, or showroom for the perfect, but a hospital for the broken and a conduit of God's grace. The sermon, anchored in Ephesians 2:19-22, taught that our lives must be built on the foundational truth of Christ and the apostles, not on shifting cultural or political sands, to withstand life's storms. Pastor Wells challenged the congregation to move beyond individualism and personal preference, to be connected to both the Head (Christ) and the Body (the church) to fulfill their God-given purpose. He illustrated this with a guitar string analogy, showing that tension within the body is necessary to produce a beautiful sound and that our purpose is discovered in serving something greater than ourselves. He concluded with a call to consistent, priority-driven attendance and investment in the local church, urging believers to see it as the place where we encounter God's presence, become more like Jesus, and connect to our divine purpose.
